The purpose of this session was strengthening capacity of academics to teach in the new programs, that has been developed recently with regards to the waste valorization treatment technologies and waste management & circular economy under the work package 1.5 & 1.6 respectively.  The following tasks were focused to this workshop

·     Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Scheme

·     Goals and best practices in packaging management in Portugal

·     Amarsul visit, which is responsible for the treatment and recovery of urban waste from the 9 municipalities of the Setúbal Peninsula in Portugal.

·     Anaerobic digestion process

·     Microbial biopolymers

This is the second capacity-building program for academic staff members for technological development, organized by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), a project partner country. This program primarily focused on sharing knowledge and experience with staff for waste treatment and valorization technologies under work package 1.4. As an EU member, Denmark has promoted the implementation of thermochemical conversion techniques under biomass valorization, with a special emphasis on energy recover and material recovery systems such as incineration, and pyrogasification

In this workshop mainly concentrated to deliver the contents and share the real time experiences about the waste treatment technologies for municipal solid waste. The following areas were covered.Organic solid waste management and AD process, Biological process modelling/simulation, Strengthening the link between research & education, Laboratory demonstration selected lab tests for biogas Process, Field visit (local wastewater treatment plant with biogas facility) Safety and sustainability in biogas process

Kickoff Meeting

The project’s kick-off meeting was hosted at the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lankan from 24th to 28th February 2020. The coordinators and team members, representing the University of South-Eastern Norway, University of Ruhuna, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Moratuwa, University of Jaffna, University of Essex, University of Vocational Technology and Janathakshan (GTE) Ltd, attended the meeting. The representatives of the Technical University of Denmark and University of Nova De Lisboa made their participated virtually.
